Focus on Education

Access to education is a fundamental human right, yet millions of children worldwide are denied this privilege. Shockingly, over 50% of children in low and middle-income countries exit primary school without the ability to read, and in some regions, the numbers are even more disheartening. For refugee children, the educational landscape is even more challenging, with only half attending any primary school, and less than a quarter progressing to secondary school.

Numerous factors contribute to this educational crisis, with poverty emerging as the predominant barrier. Political instability, conflict, violence, and susceptibility to natural disasters all significantly impact a child's ability to access education. Without quality education, children face increased difficulty in acquiring the resources needed to build sustainable livelihoods, perpetuating the cycle of poverty.

Addressing these challenges requires collective efforts to break down barriers, create opportunities, and ensure that every child has the chance to fulfill their educational potential.

Islamic Relief’s Dedication to Education Programs

Enhancing Safe Drinking Water Access in South Africa

Islamic Relief is working to increase access to safe drinking water in South Africa. Through comprehensive training programs on hygiene best practices, we aim to reduce the risk of waterborne diseases, promoting a healthier and more resilient community.

Transforming WASH Infrastructure in South Sudan

In Western Bahr El Ghazal, Warrap, and Central Equatoria states in South Sudan, Islamic Relief is dedicated to improving Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) infrastructure. Our efforts include establishing sustainable water sources for both drinking and agricultural practices, fostering long-term sustainability and community well-being.

Elevating WASH Standards for Displaced Populations in Sudan

Islamic Relief is committed to enhancing the WASH status of internally displaced people and returnees in Sudan. Through the rehabilitation and construction of hand pumps, hand-washing facilities, and sanitation facilities, along with the distribution of gender-sensitive hygiene kits for young girls, we aim to create a more dignified and sanitary environment in the states of Blue Nile, Greater Kordofan, and Darfur.
